December: 5 Films To Look Out For

Other | Monday 30th November 2015 | Sam

5. Victor Frankenstein (4th December) Drama | Horror | Sci-Fi
Director:
Paul McGuigan
Starring: Daniel Radcliffe, James McEvoy, Charles Dance

Harry Potter and Charles Xavier team up to deliver us a re-telling of Mary Shelley’s classic horror tale ‘Frankenstein’, but from a new perspective - focusing on the regression of Dr. Frankenstein’s mental state and the struggle of his protégé, Igor, to save him from insanity.

4. Chemsex (3rd December) Documentary
Director: William Fairman & Max Gogarty
Starring: Real people

A frank documentary revealing the dark side of modern gay life in London. An exposé on the underworld of gay sex involving heavy drugs and weekend long sex parties, we are introduced to a man desperately trying to escape the scene, and a health worker on a mission to save them. Witnessing men battling HIV and drug-addiction in London has never been so real on film.

3. Daddy’s Home (25th December) Comedy
Director: Sean Anders & John Morris
Starring: Will Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg, Linda Cardellini

The last time Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg linked up on screen, we were gifted with the immensely funny ‘The Other Guys’. 5 years later, the two are back, sharing the screen as a stepfather (Ferrell) and a biological father (Wahlberg) battling it out with each other for the admiration of ‘their’ children in a “Good ol’ fashion dad-off’! As usual with Will Ferrell films, expect a weak storyline which is completely overshadowed by ridiculous situations and hilarious jokes.

2. The Night Before (4th December) Comedy
Director: Jonathan Levine
Starring: Seth Rogen, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Lizzy Caplan

Similarly to Ferrell and Wahlberg, Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon-Levitt are appearing together on the big screen for the second time… although this time, the film looks far less depressing than 2011’s ‘50/50’. After realising they’re getting old, three grown men decide to go looking for the ultimate Christmas party, and in typical stoner-comedy fashion, things career completely off-the-rails.

1. Star Wars: The Force Awakens (17th December) Action | Adventure | Fantasy
Director: J.J. Abrams
Starring: Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher

If you thought anything else was gonna be number 1, I have one question for you… what have you been smoking?
