New Trailer For Neil Armstrong Biopic First Man Blasts Off Into Space

Oscar nominee Ryan Gosling shines in the latest trailer for the Neil Armstrong biopic First Man, which opens in cinemas on October 12th. The film is based on the astronaut’s authorised biography, First Man: The Life of Neil A. Armstrong by James R. Hansen, which was released in 2005 and was adapted by Josh Singer, who won an Oscar for his work on Spotlight.

Armstrong, who served in the Korean War, was the mission commander for the 1969 Apollo 11 spaceflight and was the first ever human being to have walked on the moon. He passed away in 2012, although Gosling talked to his sons to get an idea of how to portray their father, meaning that his performance should be one of the most accurate onscreen depictions of Armstrong we’ve ever seen.

Claire Foy also stars in First Man as Janet Shearon, Armstrong's wife, whilst Jason Clarke and Corey Stoll appear as Ed White and Buzz Aldrin, two other astronauts who participated in Apollo 11. The film was directed by La La Land’s Damien Chazelle and has already opened to critic praise at this year’s Venice Film Festival, which indicates that it could be an Oscar contender. And although First Man is primarily a drama focusing on Armstrong as a person, we can also see from the trailer that the $70 million production budget means that there will be some stunning visual effects on display.
