Nibble, nibble, mousekin….

The years have passed by and Hansel and Gretel have had a lot of time to overthink their childhood misery and seek revenge. Yes, you heard it right. In this version of Hansel and Gretel, they aren’t the lost and helpless children in the woods anymore; they have left the trail of breadcrumbs far behind them and have grown up into bad-ass witch fighting vigilantes. But that’s not all that there is to the story, the siblings also seem to find out more about their secret past by fighting a mysterious evil force. As flashy and exciting as this premise may sound, the movie did encounter some negative reviews. There seemed to be a lack of character development, way too much violence and an even more grim portrayal of the official fairy tale. Another main point of critique was that the original fairy-tale takes place in the middle ages, however, by the time Hansel and Gretel grow up, high tech weaponry is fully available to them. These are just remarks, however, and should not discourage everyone to still go see it.  The movie has already launched in America and is set to be released in the UK the 22nd of February. For anyone who is a fan of fairy-tale remakes, hates witches and loves seeing violence on screen this might be a good movie for you. However, for anyone expecting to see a cinematic masterpiece, I would suggest to follow that trace of breadcrumbs at the cinema and find your way back home.
