"In space no one can hear you scream...well that's unlucky."

Prometheus. Probably the most anticipated film event of the decade so far and nobody knows what is going to happen. The man behind Alien, one of the greatest sci-fi horrors ever, has returned to the genre, bringing a level of storytelling not seen since Blade Runner. Ridley Scot has created a tale that place in the same universe. The famous “space jockey” that has had people confused for at least thirty decades is to be explained.  (Finally!) But ironically there is no sign of Ellen Ripley, that badass heroine who was kicking some serious space-age butt. But her replacement more than does her justice.

The year is 2089, and Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) and Charlie Holloway (Logan Marshal Green) have found signs of the origins of mankind. They then proceed to find answers to their questions  ie “why are we here?”, “who created us?”, which then leads to chaos, carnage and lots of cool special effects that more than makes up for the hefty price  of a 3-D ticket. The all-star ensemble cast  composed of Idris Elba, Charlize Theron and the current rising star, Michael Fassbender fill their roles seamlessly, each bringing depth and character. But it isn’t even the events of the film that are appealing; in short, the 3D effects are unmatched. Not since Avatar has there been such an enthralling experience. Every blast of light is real; the touch screen technology used in the film is authentic enough to be around in today’s society. Prometheus is a useful realization in what direction technology is taking.

As a film, Prometheus should not be counted. Its sense of realism is enough to be viewed as a real-time event. Fassbender as the only non-human entity voyage into trademark sarcasm; his delivery is eerily robotic. His mannerisms are controlled; his movements even more so. However, Rapace’s performance as a woman of unrelenting faith is not to be overlooked. Every scream, shout and stance she takes is emotional. In the last act, her character develops significantly, as quite defensive. The film itself is a marvel; stunning CGI, beautiful otherworldly landscapes and a wealth of rich characters make it a good reason to munch on some popcorn in the cinema. Answering questions that EVERYONE has had since seeing the first face-hugger, Scott has surpassed the old barriers of storytelling. His vision on things sci-fi is unparalleled and with this, the film’s events carry themselves into the halls of film legend.
