Oscar nominees Rooney Mara & Joaquin Phoenix narrate animal rights documentary 'Dominion'

The American animals rights organisation known as the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) will host a series of screenings of the Australian documentary Dominion throughout the US this month.

Shot using hidden and drone cameras, Dominion aims to explore some of the appalling abuse that occurs throughout Australian farms and slaughterhouses, in addition to shedding light on how animals are also exploited in the fashion, entertainment, and research industries. The film was directed by Chris Delforce and is narrated by an assortment of A-list stars, including Joaquin Phoenix, Rooney Mara, Sia, Kat Von D and Sadie Sink.

Speaking to Live Kindly, Delforce said that he hopes his film will challenge the common perception “of animals being inferior and the idea that if someone is inferior then it gives us the right to control them, exploit them and use them for our own end." Judging by the positive response to Dominion so far, he seems to have succeeded.

Dominion will premiere on June 30th at the Animal Rights National Conference in Los Angeles, before screening in San Francisco on July 3rd, and in New York City on July 5th. You can view the trailer below, but be aware that it contains some upsetting images.
