This year hasn’t been excellent for films so far. Everything billed as a blockbuster has been somewhat lackluster and most of the comedies have fallen short of the funnybone. However, things are looking up. We’re in for some truly exciting entertainment in the coming months but, it looks as though we might have to put up with a few more flops for the pleasure. Here’s a list of five of the most exciting and five of the most ridiculous films to be released in 2012.
BEST:
Ted – Starring Mark Whalberg and Mila Kunis. Directed by Seth McFarlane.

The directorial debut of Family Guy funnyman Seth MacFarlane looks set to entertain audiences all over the world, much like his incredibly successful television exploits. Macfarlane’s trademark crassness is fine for a 20 minute episode, so let's hope he can pull it off in a feature film too.
First Position – Documentary by Bess Kargman.

The fact that this is essentially a film about ballet will mean that most men who go to see it would have probably been persuaded by their wives or girlfriends... and they'll probably spend the majority of the film hoping they don’t bump into anyone they know! Do bear in mind though, that First Position is set to shed a powerfully introspective light on the tensions between childhood and ambition in the world of professional dancing.
Jeff Who Lives at Home – Starring Ed Helms and Jason Segel. Directed by Jay and Mark Duplass.

We’ve seen the likes of Ed Helms and Jason Segel in these recent buddy comedies: Knocked Up, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and The Hangover. The collaboration between independent directors and mainstream actors should prove mutually beneficial, giving each some extra credibility in the opposite’s field.
The Dark Knight Rises – Starring Christian Bale and Tom Hardy. Directed by Christopher Nolan.

Everyone’s been talking about this since 2008. The third installment of Christopher Nolan’s Batman franchise is set to close the curtain on the story. Let’s hope it's as fantastic as the last one and just as epic as the trailer makes it look.
Django Unchained – Starring Jamie Foxx and Leonardo DiCaprio. Directed by Quentin Tarantino.
This doesn’t even have a trailer yet but it's set to be a good one! Habitual genre- hopper Quentin Tarantino is back this Christmas with a western set in the US' deep south in the period immediately preceding the American Civil War. The film stars Christoph Waltz in his second collaboration with Tarantino (the first being Inglorious Basterds) in the part of Colonel Hans Landa, the strudel loving polylingual Nazi.
WORST:
That's My Boy – Starring Adam Sandler and Andy Samberg. Produced by Happy Madison.

Adam Sandler isn’t very funny anymore. He’s still recycling the same old nonsense: funny wigs and silly voices. As the head of his own production company, Happy Madison, he gives the green light to all his own features, which explains why no one has stopped him yet and why he keeps managing to get away with it.
LOL – Starring Miley Cyrus and Demi Moore. Directed by Lisa Azuelos.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZ1bI4K1VqQ
Miley Cyrus was an actor on the Disney Channel's Hannah Montana. She then expected to be taken seriously as a singer and that’s only because her dad had a one hit wonder somewhere around 1975 that made him a load of money. And now she’s doing proper films and none of them have been any good so far. This is confirmed by her current score of 1.6/10 on IMDb and LOL doesn’t look set to buck that trend.
Mirror Mirror – Starring Lily Collins and Julia Roberts. Directed by Tarsem Singh.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YgbH05rQx1s
A ‘live- action comedy version’ of Snow White. Enough said.
Friends With Kids –Starring Kristen Wiig, Megan fox and Adam Scott. Directed by Jennifer Westfeldt.

I’m pretty sure I’ve never come across a less plausible plot to a film that isn’t set in the future. Two friends decide to have a baby with each other, without entering into a romantic relationship at all. There are some pretty good comedy actors in there but, the inclusion of Megan Fox suggests that it doesn’t have much else going for it.
Magic Mike – Starring Channing Tatum and Alex Pettyfer. Directed by Steven Soderbergh.

Alex Pettyfer’s notoriously bad American accent returns in Steven Soderbergh’s film about male strippers. By watching the trailer I can’t identify anything interesting in it, unless of course you are a male stripper and you are able to relate on any level whatsoever.
