Logan's James Mangold to direct Ford vs. Ferrari film

Other | Tuesday 6th February 2018 | David

After the success of Logan, became the second highest-grossing R-rated superhero movie of all time, Variety have confirmed that director James Mangold will next helm a film about how car designers at Ford and Ferrari competed to create the world's fastest race car.

The film, which does not yet have an official title, is currently being referred to as ‘Untitled Ford vs. Ferrari Project’. It was written by Jez and John-Henry Butterworth, with Mangold reportedly eying A-listers Christian Bale and Matt Damon for the roles of drivers Ken Miles and automobile designer Caroll Shelby. The plot of the film will centre around how both men were recruited by Henry Ford II to create a vehicle that could defeat the infamous Ferrari at the 1966 Le Mans World Championship.

Mangold, who also directed the Oscar-winning musical drama Walk the Line, has been strongly critical of Hollywood’s focus on franchise filmmaking (not to mention what he had to say about post-credits scenes). This could seem a tad hypocritical, as he directed not one, but two X-Men film, the second of which became the first superhero movie to be nominated for the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay. In any case, his Ford vs. Ferrari film does not yet have a confirmed release date, but we should be hearing more soon.
