Matrix fans, prepare to take the red pill once again because it appears that the beloved franchise will receive a reboot.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. plan on revitalising the iconic sci fi franchise.

The report states that at the moment, it is not clear as to the shape the project will take, but that Warner Bros. are indeed in the early stages of relaunching the 1999 franchise.

Potential interest of Michael B. Jordan to star has been raised, but so much is to be done before the project is ready to begin.

It appears from the report that the Wachowski siblings, who wrote and directed the trilogy, are not involved right now. The studio would likely want the approval of both filmmakers at least, however nothing has come about at the time of writing.

Joel Silver, who produced the original trilogy, had been reported to approach Warner Bros, with an idea to create a new Matrix film, however he sold his interest in all his movies to the studio in 2012 for approximately $30 million.

The report also states that Warner Bros. is said to be cautious of including Silver in the proceedings for any meaningful role, as he unreliable in budget control and apparently, he has a strained relationship with the Wachowski's.

Keanu Reeves has mentioned that he would be open to return to The Matrix if the Wachowski’s are involved in any way, so we can and wait and see what his involvement in the reboot will be.

The Matrix has gone down in history for its ground breaking original sci fi stories and effects, which made us question whether life is a simulation. So the idea of a revival for such a revered franchise is truly exciting for any fan!
