Keanu Reeves open to another Matrix movie

The Matrix was a ground-breaking original sci fi film released in 1999 which made us all question whether life is real or just merely a simulation.

Directed and created by the Wachowski’s, The Matrix left a lasting impression on the world with its mesmerising bullet time effects and fight sequences, as the movie gained major popularity.

It however suffered the curse of the sequels, as The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolution failed to capture the same magic as its predecessor despite having its moments.

The conclusion of the infamous trilogy saw the main protagonist Neo (Keanu Reeves) dying in order to end the war between man and the machine. However, this followed an ambiguous ending as Sati (Tanveer K. Atwal) asked the Oracle (Mary Alice), “Will we ever see him again?” to which she responded, “I suspect so. Someday.”

Whilst we recently had a Matrix reunion of some sorts in John Wick 2 which saw Keanu Reeves reuniting with Laurence Fishburne, who played Morpheus, it was worth wondering if we are likely to see Neo return in a new Matrix film.

Yahoo Movies asked Reeves this very question. “The Wachowskis would have to be involved,” he said. “They would have to write it and direct it. And then we’d see what the story is, but yeah, I dunno, that’d be weird, but why not?” He added, “People die, stories don’t, people in stories don’t.”

In a time where reboots and sequels are nothing but ordinary, it would not be surprising to see a fourth instalment in The Matrix saga, considering the original trilogy crossed $1.6 billion worldwide. The idea of seeing The Matrix reinvented with today’s technology brings one word to mind, which to quote Neo himself. “Woah”.
