Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Officially Announced

Other | Wednesday 17th February 2016 | Arash

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” has finally gotten its official release. Set to hit cinemas in May 2017, we have a long wait before we can all enjoy seeing our favourite guardians and all the galactic shenanigans they get up to.

HOWEVER, director of the first Guardians of the Galaxy and the sequel has announced some of the new cast members, including Kurt Russell.

Gunn stated on Facebook that, “Official photography on ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ has started, and I couldn’t be more stoked.” He went on to say that, “My favourite movie as a small child was ‘The Strongest Man in the World’ so I’m so glad to announce that, yes, Kurt Russell has joined our cast and yes, he is more awesome a dude than I ever could have imagined.”

He also added that, “The last few around here with him and our other new cast members, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki and Chris Sullivan, have been some of the best of my life, I never thought anyone was missing from our island of misfit toys, but now that these folks are here there feels like there was.”

He also mentioned having more surprises in store for us in the upcoming months, but for now, this is all the information we’re getting.

Kurt Russell having been the star of many iconic films such as “Death Proof” and the recently released “The Hateful Eight” admitted that he had never seen the first film, saying, “I don’t know anything about it. I’m one of the four idiots who have never seen it, evidently.”

When describing his phone call with James Gunn on the casting topic, he said, “We talked to each other on the phone and I just had to be honest and say, ‘Thank you for considering me, I have to read it and I have to watch the movie, because I can’t bring anything for you. I got nothing to offer.’”

The film will also have all the characters from the first film, and even though none of the new actors have been officially cast, we can confirm that Pom Klementieff will play Mantis, the half Vietnamese, half German psychic martial artist how has been in both the Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers in the comic books and the return of Michael Rooker as the blue space Ravager, Yondu.
