Tarantino To Tackle The Theatre With The Hateful Eight

Other | Monday 11th January 2016 | Sam

Quentin Tarantino hinted at the 2016 Golden Globe Awards that his latest screen production, The Hateful Eight, could be coming to a stage near you in the next few years.

In an post-awards interview with The Wrap, the controversial director stated how he plans on adapting the script to the stage, and in which direction he intends the adaptation to go:

"I'm just waiting for this [awards] season to be over so I can write it. I gotta put myself there and write it for this."

Perhaps the Oscar-winning director now has his eyes on the Tony Awards, much like fellow Oscar-winners and South Park creators, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, whose musical, The Book of Mormon has been an incredibly huge success, running non-stop in London's West End since 2013.

It has also emerged that boss of Tarantino's producer's, The Weinstein Company, Harvey Weinstein, originally wanted the script to be written for the stage, however, Tarantino claims that he "[had] the 70mm [film] and the snow", and he wanted to created a masterpiece with them. Furthermore, he claims that he enjoys the mystery aspect of the script, and that "will really only work with the movie".

Considering the immense success of Tarantino's previous films, as well as the huge excitement over The Hateful Eight, a stage adaptation may well prove to be a massive global hit before it even comes out... that is the popularity of the veteran director's works.
