New Blade Runner Film 'Most Likiely a Sequel'

Other | Friday 18th May 2012 | Osh

In the few weeks leading up to the release of Prometheus, one of the year's most anticipated movies (and believe us, it really is), a press release has gone out from Ridley Scott announcing that the new Blade Runner movie will 'most likely' be a sequel, set after the events of Rick Deckard's (Harrison Ford) confrontation with the Replicants, a race of artificial humans.

The bigger piece of news, however, is that one of Blade Runner's original writers, Hampton Fancher - this guy is particularly important, as he was the one who optioned Philip K. Dick's Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, the book the film is based on, in the first place. At the moment, he's only onboard officially to 'develop the idea for the original screenplay'. Another interesting point is that the lead character will be female.

The two questions at the forefront of every film fanatic's mind are: What is this new Blade Runner actually going to be about? And Will Harrison Ford star in any capacity? It's early days yet - we'll just have to satiate ourselves with Prometheus, Scott's other addition to a story he also began thirty years ago.
