Eric Rohmer Retrospective At The BFI

January for cinephiles kicks off strong as French master Eric Rohmer is receiving the retrospective treatment with his films playing at BFI Southbank across the month. Rohmer is an alumni of both the French New Wave of 60s filmmakers and the Cahiers du cinema, a group of 60s critics who shaped the way we predominantly look at movies today, crystallising the notion of the director as author or auteur. His best loved films (Claire’s Knee, The Green Ray, The Collector) are all playing which is significant for film lovers who know that Rohmer films are both hard to see and best seen in 35mm on the big screen.
