Daniel Day-Lewis is the only actor in history to have won three Oscars in the Best Leading Actor category, one of which was for director Paul Thomas Anderson’s 2007 masterpiece There Will Be Blood. Daniel Day-Lewis and Thomas Anderson recently reunited for the drama Phantom Thread, which takes place in the 1950s fashion world.

In what he has confirmed will be his final performance, Day-Lewis plays Reynolds Woodcock, an ageing dress designer who begins to develop unwanted feelings for a young woman named Alma (played by Vicky Krieps). Richard Graham, Camilla Rutherford, Harriet Sansom Harris, and Brian Gleeson also star, with Radiohead's Jonny Greenwood providing the soundtrack.

Phantom Thread, which is now playing across the UK, opened in the US during last year’s awards season and earned rave reviews in addition to an incredible six Oscar nominations, including one for Best Picture. Day-Lewis also earned his fifth overall nomination for the film, so we’ll just have to wait until the ceremony on March the 4th to see if he takes home yet another Oscar.
