Rude Grl Taps Into 80s and 90s Hip-Hop For Debut Single RnB/Hip Hop | Monday 10th July 2017 | Sean debut rude grl jenna dickens ben langmaid run dmc it's like that Hip Hop RnB Rude Grl have revealed debut single ‘That’s The Way It Is (Survival Of The Sickest)’, the first release on Rat Boy’s new label, SCUM. The track draws influences from the early 80s and 90s electro hip-hop and post-punk scene. It features a prominent interpolation of Run–DMC's seminal 'It's Like That' and yet sounds completely fresh and unique in a landscape awash with playlist-friendly pop. Rude Grl are a duo comprising of Jenna Dickens and Ben Langmaid (formerly of La Roux). Having previously worked with the likes of Wiley, Roll Deep, Bless Beats and Basement Jaxx, as well as once coming close to winning BBC 1Xtra’s Battle of the Nation rap battle (at the age of 12!), 24-year-old Jenna has solid credentials as a singer, songwriter and MC. She met Ben in 2015 and credits him with helping to develop her even further as an artist. "I'm so excited to get this music out there", Jenna says. "I hope it causes some mayhem. Ben is like a big brother to me, he's really been there for me personally, as well as in music. That’s what has made the music so special. We were allowed a space to put everything into it: the raw and the real…no holding back!” Listen to ‘That’s The Way It Is (Survival Of The Sickest)’ below: Follow Rude Grl on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram to keep up to date with the latest.
