Many critics of the Wu-Tang Clan claim they have not lived up to the high standards set in the heydays of their first solo records and seminal LPs ‘Enter The 36 Chambers’ and ‘Wu-Tang Forever’, their 4x platinum, double CD/vinyl album that celebrated its 20th anniversary last year.
In contrast to this opinion, amongst nearly all fans of traditional, boom-bap hip hop there is a consensus that the Wu remain highly relevant, representing an ethic and style of hip hop that has been publicly and commercially overshadowed by the contemporary, vocoder loaded, dirty south party sound that generally dominates the commercial airwaves and hip hop streaming charts.
This fresh heat from Meth shows that, even after 25 years in the game, the Ticallion Stallion is as hungry and relevant as he ever has been. His flows here sound as dope as those from his coveted 1994 solo LP ‘Tical’, but backed by lyrics formed by another two decades or so of experience and inspiration. This combined with the moody, bass driven production makes for a certified banger of a track.
I may be wrong, but it sounds as if Meth is spitting harder than ever.
‘Grand Prix’ is the only Meth solo track from the much anticipated ‘Meth Lab 2’, which set to drop later this year via Hanz On Music Entertainment / OneRPM. As with the first ‘Meth Lab’ record, the album serves as a platform for up and coming artists from Staten Island, including, to quote Meth himself, “...new cats from Staten Island we thought was dope..”.
Check out the video below and get set for Meth’s new LP which is set to keep the Iron Flag flying for the Wu.
