Leaf Dog, better known as one of The Four Owls, produces a rather fair chunk of the top UK beats at present and has just dropped his long anticipated second LP Dyslexic Disciple.
With some top production credits on both sides of the Atlantic including tracks with Styles P, Vinne Paz and Kool G Rap, Leaf Dog has made sure that his new album is a veritable feast of beats and bars.
The main highlight here for me must, of course, be ‘The Legacy’. The track follows in the line of classic UK hip hop Crew Cuts, all the way back from Skitz’s ‘Twilight of the Gods’ & ‘Fingerprints of the Gods’ up to Dirty Dike’s ‘Posse Cut 9 million’.
Featuring 18 well established UK emcees, including celebrated veterans such as Taskforce, Klashnekoff, Jehst, Mystiggi and Phi-Life Cypher, it is the biggest ever UK hip hop Crew Cut ever released, and will surely be straight in at the top of any UK hip hop head’s playlist.
With a whole host of UK artists including Dabbla, Smellington Piff, his Four Owl brother BVA and Jazz T, there is also an appearance from US veteran Kool Keith of Ultramagnetic MCs / Dr Octagon, on the track 'The Reminder'.
Dyslexic Disciple is a great example of Leaf Dog's hugely distinctive production style with his beats, as always, effortlessly catering to maximise the presence of the emcee.
The album is also yet another credit to the constant output of High Focus Records and the hard work that their roster put in, something which has been a key factor in the revitalisation of our native hip hop scene since the label's conception in 2010.
This will be a much-welcomed addition to your UK hip hop collection and a must for fans of The Four Owls.
