Samuel L Jackson "They think Black British actors are Better Trained"
Jordan Peele’s ‘Get Out’ is a new comedy/horror movie which is creating waves amongst the movie industry, whilst getting wide praise, it is also receiving some interesting comments.
One notable actor who is causing some controversy is Samuel L Jackson.
Recently, the Pulp Fiction actor appear on US Hot 97 radio station where he criticised Hollywood for casting black British actors in films about US race relations.
“I don’t know what the love affair with all that is,” the actor said.
“We’ve got a lot of brothers here that need to work too.”
Jackson was speaking on the casting of British actor Daniel Kaluuya for the lead in Get Out.
“I think it’s great that movie’s doing everything it’s doing and people are loving it,” Jackson said.
“But…I know the young brother who’s in the movie, and he’s British.
“I tend to wonder what that movie would have been with an American brother who really feels that.”
The actor as since addressed the comments to The Associated Press, where he mentions that his comments weren’t necessarily misunderstood, but his criticism was not of the performers but rather of the system that allows black actors from overseas to take vital roles in American films.
“It was not a slam against them, but it was just a comment about how Hollywood works in an interesting sort of way sometimes,” Jackson said whilst at the premiere of his new film Kong: Skull Island.
His comments drew criticism from black British actor actor, John Boyega, who took to Twitter to say that the debate is a “stupid” conflict which “we don’t have time for.”
