The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2 (Francis Lawrence) - Adventure | Sci-Fi
In what is one of the biggest releases of the year, Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) throws herself into battle with the malevolent leader of 'Panem', President Snow (Donald Sutherland), one last time. The final installment of the hugely successful young-adult series is expected to make a 'mockery' of the Box Office, and, Twilight comparisons aside, it actually looks to be a diamond in the rough of shit blockbusters being churned out by Hollywood.
20th November -
Love (Gaspar Noé) - Drama | Romance
The Guardian have said that Gaspar Noé's latest 'Hardcore 3D sex movie is 50 shades of vanilla'. So yea, if you like hardcore, 3D sex movies you're in luck! However, you're going to have to sit through a very vanilla film about an American man living in Paris getting involved, sexually and emotionally, with a young French woman, and, for some reason they decide to invite their neighbour over for a bit of good ol' 3D fun. Sex has never been so in-your-face!
Mr Calzaghe (Vaughan Sivell) - Documentary
Limited Release - Witness the rise of Britain's 'greatest ever boxer', Welshman Joe Calzaghe. A behind-the-scenes look at what made the man so great, from his relationship with his trainer/father to his intense training regime; this promises to be a wet dream for boxing fans. If you can't catch this is in the cinema, the DVD release is 23rd November... so it just about gets away from the 'straight-to-DVD' mantle!
What Our Fathers Did: A Nazi Legacy [My Nazi Legacy] (David Evans) - Documentary
Limited Release - Three men travel around Europe; One whose family was torn apart by the Nazi regime, and two others who are sons of senior Nazi officials with very different views of their fathers - the premise alone should be enough for you to want to go and see this documentary. This emotional, psychological journey of three men, each, with conflicting versions of the truth promises to be a truly unique view into the difficult topic of family shame and guilt.
The Russian Woodpecker (Chad Gracia) - Documentary | War
Limited Release (1 cinema) - This docu-drama focuses around a Ukrainian victim of the Chernobyl disaster, his discovery of a dark secret, and his decision over risking his life to play a part in the revolution. A very topical film, exploring the Chernobyl disaster as well as the Russia/Ukraine conflict brings up an interesting idea - did Russia play a part in the explosions at Chernobyl in 1986?
