I’m always faced with the same problem on Friday nights in Shoreditch. Whether I’m out having dinner or just meeting people for drinks, when it gets to twelve o’clock places start turning out and whatever state you are in, you have to decide where to go. Choose one of the following: A - another drink, B - greasy kebab, C - cab to a club, D - go home. More often than not option A is the first thing on your mind, perhaps followed by B, C or D!
If you haven’t been to Hoxton Square Bar yet you should know that the space itself is brilliant, glass walls at the front and back and a high ceiling mean that it feels airy even if it’s ram jammed full of people. The walls covered in unique artwork by a multitude of street artists. There are loads of tables inside plus some sofas near the door if you get there early enough, and a big back room where DJs and bands play. They have different promoters come in to run events every week, but this friday it was POP! Fridays, which as the name suggests is a mix of absolute party classics! Don’t be put off by the name however, because we didn’t hear a single cringe worthy Top40 tune the whole night. Selection was tight, from Dizzee Rascal to Snoop Dogg to ‘the odd guilty pleasure’ which the DJs confess to throwing in for good measure. Great fun.
The music on other nights is super varied and you are just as likely to see Spectrasoul launching their new album their as you are to see a live band playing out. The bar is a regular haunt of music and creative professionals in the daytime who come in for a coffee to get some work done, and the restaurant serves top food on the other side of the venue. They have a decent sized covered outdoor restaurant area as well, great for a date.
All in all, a Shoreditch resident favourite and a Guestlist Network staple before the club. If you don’t know get to know!
