The Life of Pi. MUST SEE

The Life of Pi

Where to start? The plot line or the amazing visuals?

Not only is the plotline enticing to your imagination but the visual aspects are beautiful, and really does the film justice. I’d even call it a work of imagination by its Author. The film is based on a novel ‘The Life of Pi‘ by Yann Martel,  which was also the Novel winner of the Booker Prize in 2001. Now Directed by Ang Lee – who had such successes as Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon - he takes on a beautiful visual, complete with the authenticity of India.

The film spins a tale of a Boy, starting his life out with his family in Pondicherry, India. His Father, a big influence in his life, runs a Zoo there and is quick to teach Pi that Animals should not be treated like Humans.

Pi’s Mother and Father are proud members of the post-independence “New India.” His father in particular is a believer in rationality and science. However Pi, follows a different path and not only takes on a religion but follows the paths of several – this being one of several themes in the film.

Moving on, Pi and his family, decide to vacate India and move to Canada following the unstable conditions in India around the 1970’s – with the decision to sell their collection of Animals to various Zoos around Canada – in an attempt to set up a quieter life there. However upon route, a huge storm occurs, shipwrecking the family. Pi now alone, finds himself abandoned on a small sail boat along with One Zebra, One Orangutan, One Hyena and a unpredictable Bengal Tiger named Richard Parker.

A few vicious encounters later and only Pi and the Tiger remain. Together they spend over 200 days on their makeshift lifeboat together on the unpredictable Pacific Ocean, and it appears that Pi manages to tame him.

During their time at sea, Pi and Richard undergo many encounters together– many of which are amazing to the eye in 3D! One of these imaginative encounters includes a brief visit to a floating Island, which holds a unbelievable secret…

Pi and Richard even develop an unusual relationship, which unfolds throughout the film – I found this particularly heartwarming. After all these encounters, Pi and Richard end up sailing to Mexico, when Pi explains his narrative to the shipping line they fail to believe his story. With no proof how can convince people of his story? So he tries a different version… involving human brutality!

Accompany Pi and Richard along with one of the most imaginative journeys 3D cinema has seen!

My Verdict:

To me, it is films like these which prove why 3D was created! So definitely watch it in 3D, its well worth it! The burst of Bollywood enriched colours throughout the entire film is more expressive and deeply appreciated in 3D, so get those Geeky glasses out! If your gonna go and watch it you need to do it properly!
