Oscars’ shortlisted songs!

Wednesday 12th December 2012 | Laura

You can start to make your beds for the Oscars, not for the winners, but for the nominees. 75 names have been undercover on the run for the golden statue, most of them fairly shortlisted. One predictable one is ‘Skyfall’ -theme for the latest Bond film- by Adele, which is already in everyone’s IPod, one not such predictable is 'Wide Awake' from Katy Perry’s documentary and concert film Part Of Me, which has been tagged by most of the media as one of the worst films of the year, how ironic it would be if gets an Oscar, it will be a figure surrounded by Razzies in Perry’s living room.

I’m delightfully surprised about the possible nomination for Frankiewinnie’s ‘Strange Love’ by Karen O, a personal like. I think Frankiewinnie Unleashed is an amazing soundtrack which I would have trouble to choose just one song, I also wrote an article about the indie sound of the whole album, as an example of the modernization of kid’s musical taste. In this shortlist we can also find names such as Mumford & Sons with 'Learn Me Right' from Disney Pixar animation Brave, and Black Keys, who contributed 'Baddest Man Alive' to RZA's kung-fu movie The Man With The Iron Fists, bands which  are nowadays at the head of the indie scene.

The movie that has more chances to get nominated though is Django Unchained from Quentin Tarantino which has 4 tracks nominated such as Rick Ross' '100 Black Coffins' and John Legend's 'Freedom'.  Also up are Arcade Fire for their track 'Abraham's Daughter' on The Hunger Games soundtrack, Fiona Apple's 'Dull Tool', which will appear in Judd Apatow's This Is 40, and Liz Phair's 'Dotted Line' from People Like Us.

You will be able to check the final nominees the 10th January, and the winners on February in the 85th Annual Academy Awards hosted next year by Seth MacFarlane.
