Silver Linings Playbook

This epic Rom-Com directed by David O.Russell stars Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence. Jennifer Lawrence only recently graced our screens with an award winning performance in The Hunger Games and now it is clear she’s exploring all genres in an attempt to appear in a variety of roles, which has definitely worked in her favor.
This film is meant to be the feel-good film of the Winter. and completely moves away from a stereotypical Rom-Com with different features set to hit its audiences. Based on book The Silver Linings Playbook by Matthew Quick.
To me, this films main message is that life doesn’t always go to plan, but you have to look at the ‘Silver Lining.’ In a brief overview of the storyline, Pat (Bradley Cooper) is recovering from a 4-year stint in a mental institution and after being discharged he finds himself moving back in with his parents, and attempting to salvage his relationship with his ex-wife. However when he meets Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence) life takes a very different turn, especially when he realizes she is a young Widow. Once meeting Tiffany she offers to help Pat reconnect with his wife, but only if he'll do something very important for her in return. As their deal plays out, an unexpected bond begins to form between them, and silver linings appear in both of their lives.
Many have reviewed the film as favorable because of its realistic portrayl of a dysfunctional family. Rather than a out-of-this world plotline which is usually seen in a traditional Rom-Com. I feel David O.Russell’s emphasis on realism has made a connection with its audiences – as with most reviews this seems to be what the audience favors – aside from the characters connection.
Although the trailer for the film gives a very close insight into the characters connection, the plot isn’t clear unless you have actually seen the film. I actually favor this point as I feel the plot develops from your own observations during the film rather than the trailer giving it all away.
This film promises laugh out loud moments, a budding romance, edgy humour and hard-hitting emotional drama!
Although the film was released in late November, the Film is expected to last in the cinema til mid-January, so if you haven’t already seen it you need to get down to the cinema ASAP!
