Reggae legend: Tenor Fly RIP

Drum and Bass | Monday 11th July 2016 | Cristina

An artist central to UK music throughout the 1980s and 90s has passed away, dying suddenly on 17 June. Tenor Fly was a massive British MC across many genres – roots reggae, dancehall, drum and bass. However, he was most closely associated with ragga and jungle and brought a unique perspective to the scene with his profound lyricism. He has worked with Congo Natty, Top Cat, Barrington Levy, Blackstar, Pendulum and many other huge names in jungle.

Born as Jonathan Sutter in Brixton, Tenor Fly rose through the ranks of drum and bass to become one of their legends. He started off in the 80s with dub and dancehall tracks on the Music of Life and Sir Coxsone labels.

Artists like Grooverider, Channel One Sound System and the Bug have been paying tribute to him.
