Tarantino XX

Other | Tuesday 9th October 2012 | Jake

Quentin Tarantino is still at the top of his game. With his new film, Django Unchained, set for release in January 2013, fans won’t have to wait long for their next dose of Tarantino.

Where do I begin? Over the last twenty years, this man has sculpted and redefined modern cinema. Bursting onto screens in 1992 with the now cult classic Reservoir Dogs, Tarantino has set a bar so high, I personally don’t think anyone has even come close to touching it.

For the hardcore Tarantino fan, like myself, what will another box-set have to offer? Well, a lot more than you might think. I mean, who would shell out £60 for the same movies and same special features? Me, for one. But then this is coming from someone who will buy a VHS copy of Pulp Fiction just because it has a different colour co-ordination to the other seven that I own.

Tarantino XX offers a bunch of exciting new features. Not only do you get to watch the films in mind bending high definition making you feel like your giving Uma Thurman the adrenaline shot yourself, but if you’re a features junkie like me, then this set might be for you.

The 10-disc set, handpicked by Tarantino himself, illustrates a 20-year career with eight films that defined his success from ‘Reservoir Dogs’ in the early nineties through to the World War II epic Inglorious Basterds in 2009.

The extra features will include:

  • Critics Corner: The Films of Quentin Tarantino – In-depth critics’ discussion piece exploring Tarantino’s films that redefined cinema and the impact of one of the most influential writers/directors of our time.
  • 20 Years of Filmmaking – Take a look at Tarantino’s career from the beginning, with interviews from co-workers, critics, stars and master filmmakers alike as well as a tribute to his greatest collaborator, Sally Menke.

The flick that you might be surprised to see in the set is ‘True Romance’. Although not directed by Tarantino, it was his first motion picture screenplay that he originally intended to direct but ended up selling it on to be later directed by the late Tony Scott.

Tarantino XX will mark the beginning of a very busy year for Quentin, for in a few short months will see the release of Django Unchained, the story of a slave turned bounty hunter (Jamie Foxx) out to rescue his wife from a plantation owner (Leonardo DiCaprio). What’s not to like?

Tarantino XX is set for release on November 26th 2012.

Django Unchained will be released in UK cinemas on January 18th 2013.
