Hunger Games fans will be happy to know that the sequel, Hunger Games: Catching Fire, has finally began filming in and around Atlanta, Georgia.
There is no doubt that Hunger Games was one of the biggest blockbusters of 2012. Like most movies, before the screenplay came the books, the Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins had already sold over 50 millions copies, so it was hardly a surprise when the film went on to gross over £437m worldwide. With a response like that a sequel wasn't gonna be far behind.
Catching Fire reunites us with some of our favourite characters Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence), Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) and Gale Hawthorne (Liam Hemsworth) as we are catapulted a few months forward from where we left off. There is a growing rebellion in the post-apocalyptic nation, Panem and the characters can't help being drawn into another Hunger Games event.
The Catching Fire reigns have been handed over to Francis Lawrence after the director of the first film, Gary Ross pulled out. So it will be interesting to see if he can maintain the essence of the first. After they wrap up shooting in Georgia, they'll move on to the beautiful beaches and jungles of Hawaii.
It is set to be released 22 November 2013, so we've got just over a year to go, but for those of you that need to satisfy your hunger before then the Hunger Games DVD came out a couple of weeks ago, check out the trailer below.
