A movie that recreates the 2004 Tsunami.
The film, which starts Ewan Mc Gregor and Naomi Watts, tells the true story of a family who survived the December 26th, 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami hit, which left over 150,000 displaced, missing or dead. The trailer, set to Damien Rice’s cover of U2′s One, starts with images of the happy family who is spending Christmas in Thailand, when a giant wave rises up from the center of the earth.
The family gets separated by the massive waves and must overcome all obstacles to get together again. However, the director says: “It’s not only a survival story, but also makes us think for who and in which way we want to survive. There is something powerful in this story that overcomes the tragedy to talk about human condition”. The Impossible, directed by Juan Antonio Bayona, is the Spanish director’s second movie after the success of The Orphanage. The shooting took place in 20 villages in Thailand and in Spanish studios where 13 million liters of water were moved. The film will be released in Toronto and San Sebastian Film Festivals during September 2012 and will hit theaters on December 21st.
