Jersey Boys' Favreau makeover

With all the projects Jon Favreau is involved in – the extensive list includes having recently exec produced The Avengers Assemble and Iron Man 3 ( in which he reprised his role as playboy Stark’s right-hand man Happy Hogan), co-producing upcoming NCB drama Revolution, joining the cast for Martin Scorcese’s The Wolf of Wall Street, and being recruited by Disney to head up The Magic Kingdom, a planned feature based on one of thier theme park rides – you would think it impossible that the man would find time to get involved in any more projects, right? You would be wrong.
It has recently been announced that Favreau is to direct the screen adaptation of the popular jukebox musical Jersey Boys. It follows the rise and tribulations of famed 60s rock ‘n roll band The Four Seasons. It has seen worldwide success, having its initial beginnings on Broadway before touring London’s West End, Las Vegas, Toronto, Chicago and Melbourne. Its theatrical brilliance earned the musicial prestigious Tony and Laurence Olivier awards, so it is no wonder film and production companies are eager to follow in the footsteps of theatre-movie transfers such as Chicago and the imminent Les Miserables, and bestow upon it a cinema debut.
The screenplay will be penned by John Logan, the man who scripted Ridley Scott’s Gladiator and Scorcese’s Christmas flick Hugo. The casting process has begun to select the lucky boys who will get to take their turn as main characters Frankie Valli, Bob Guadio, Tommy Devito and Nick Massi, and shooting is scheduled to start in January next year.
