First look at Ang Lee's Life of Pi trailer

First of all, before anything else is mentioned, it needs to be acknowledged that the cinematography in this film is insane. The trailer for Ang Lee’s (director of Brokeback Mountain, Sense and Sensibility, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon) adaptation of Yann Martel’s Life of Pi has made its way to our monitors, and it looks like the Oscar-winning director is headed for further Academy adoration.
The plot follows the young Pi as he survives the sinking of a freighter and is left stranded with a hyena, a zebra, an orangutan and a Bengal tiger for company. The special effects are the kind that, rather than over-taking the film, add a striking charm to it, conveying turbulent oceans as well as paradisiacal isolation in the vast expanse. Set in India, it is also awash with vivid colours and joureys to exotic landscapes. Without a doubt this is one of the most stunning trailers you’ll watch all year.
Life of Pi will be released in UK cinemas on 21 December 2012.
