Finding Nemo 2 to Be Directed By Andrew Stanton

Friday 20th July 2012 | Osh

Director Andrew Stanton has agreed to do a sequel to Finding Nemo, after it proved to be a huge success in 2003 when it made £555m at the box office.

This news has got fans excited and it has left them wondering about the possible plot of the film. Lindsey Collins will produce it but there have been no formal announcements as to the casting of the film. It’s being lined up for release in 2016.

Stanton was one of the main figures at Pixar during the 2000’s, co-writing credits on A Bug’s Life, Monsters Inc and the Toy Story Trilogy.

In addition, he directed Finding Nemo and Wall-E, where he won two Oscars for best animated films. With Stanton directing the first film, it was ideal for him to direct the sequel. It’d be of great benefit to the whole team working to make Finding Nemo 2. He’ll be committed to four years in making the animated film, which is the average amount of time on making a Pixar film.

At one point, Pixar were once known for their original animated film content, but Finding Nemo 2 is in a list of sequels Pixar have done. Toy Story 3 was released in 2010, which was followed by Cars 2, while a sequel to Monsters Inc is to be scheduled for release in June 2013.

Finding Nemo is the fifth highest animation movie of all time – and Pixar’s second biggest selling film, after Toy Story 3 that made $1.06bn.

There may be even better news for all Pixar fans. Tom Hanks has dropped hints at the possibility of there being a Toy Story 4. In addition, there has been speculation that there may be sequels to Wall-E and Up. How cool is that? Or is it? Could it be an indication that Pixar are running out of ideas or will they be as good as previous films?
