Films to See This Year
Tuesday 17th July 2012 | Osh
The summer is here, and with it comes the summer blockbusters. In cinemas right now there's Andrew Garfield giving us his take on Peter Parker in The Amazing Spiderman and something for the ladies with Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer and Matthew McConaughey all stripping off in Magic Mike. Also, you can still catch Will Smith back as Agent J in Men in Black III and Kristen Stewart, getting as far away from Bella as possible, in Snow White and the Huntsman.
We also have the most anticipated movie of the summer, The Dark Knight Rises. Coming out this Friday, it's the final part of Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy. If The Dark Knight was anything to go by, this movie is going to be epic Critics have described it as ‘smartly written’, with ‘Oscar-caliber performances’, and as ‘the King Daddy of summer movie epics’ - so Christian Bale as Batman is a must-see this summer.
Out on August 17th, we have Seth Rogen’s new romantic comedy Take This Waltz. Along with Michelle Williams and Luke Kirby, this is bound to be a good one. Described as a ‘crushing, but breath-taking look at romance’ this is one to look out for. Coming out in early October we have Emma Watson in her first major role since Harry Potter in The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Based on the best-selling novel by Stephen Chbosky, it captures the highs and lows of growing up and the importance of friendship. This coming-of-age tale is going to be movie magic.
Out on November 9th, Sean Penn plays the Brooklyn-born mobster Mickey Cohen in Gangster Squad. The story surrounds Sgt. John O’Mara and Jerry Wooters, played by Josh Brolin and Ryan Gosling, who try to break down Cohen’s world. Set in LA in 1949, the story re-tells the LAPD’s effort in destroying the dangerous mafia boss; so, with plenty of action and drama, this is definitely one to look out for later this year. Staying within the theme of going back in time, out in December we have the release of The Great Gatsby; Leonardo DiCaprio plays Gatsby himself with Tobey Maguire and Carey Mulligan playing Nick Carraway and Daisy Buchanan. Set in 1920s New York, this movie has everything from flapper dresses to loose morals. This is without a doubt going to be a Christmas blockbuster.
Now that you're all set for movies for the next six months, what are you waiting for? Get down to the cinema!
