The Latest Avenger...

Avengers Assemble has been out for a while now - yet Disney, its studio, seem keen to march on ahead with making some new additions to the box-office destroying superhero team.
Ant-Man is the latest Avenger from the comics to be getting the big-screen treatment. Hank Pym is a man who can change his size to mega-miniature to the size of insects, or in the other direction, becoming as tall as a building. Reports have stated that there's been a test footage reel for Ant-Man created this week, but the most interesting aspect of this is that it's directed by Edgar Wright, the man behind Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, plus the hit British sitcom Spaced which helped first bring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost some fame. The British director has clearly got an eye for fast-edited, comic-style and action-oriented movie making, most evident in Scott Pilgrim which is itself a comic adaptation.
But surely this awesome combination of matter and master would get the green light straight away, especially with the sheer appeal that Iron Man, Thor and Captain America have already displayed? It seems that the studio still aren't sure whether a guy with a name that leaves nothing to the imagination (Ant-Man? Come on, Stan) with absurd powers will fit the screen - literally. While Wright is obviously eager to make this elusive superhero work, it's going to take some convincing, especially as he's already signed on to make Simon Pegg's latest movie, The World's End. We'll just have to wait and see if Ant-Man will get the go-ahead.
