Fifty Shades of Panic and Rumours
Thursday 17th October 2013 | Lauren
The stress that must be filling the Fifty Shades of Grey production office right now, frankly terrifies me. After Charlie Hunnam dropped out of playing Christian Grey, the multi millionaire weird sex loving 'romantic' lead, (or as I have been led to believe, as someone with an ounce of self respect, I have not read the trilogy). Rumours circulated that the vicious internet backlash against his casting were what led to his bolting after the sex dungeon door had been opened, or that he simply got cold feet, and didn't want to be forever known as that role for all his live long days. His official excuse: that there were scheduling conflicts with US television series, Sons of Anarchy.

But new rumours have emerged that the reason for his surprise exit were because of that old age phrase 'lack of creative input'. Hunnman a writer as well as an actor, apparently sought further script approvals over Kelly Marcel's screenplay. But, it seems that Hunnman was all too happy to jump ship, leaving the film in preproduction, after the role has been announced (and especially a role as anticipated as this). We'll see if Hunnman's departure has a positive or negative effect on the film, and if the controversy keeps audiences interested or alienates them.
Fifty Shades of Grey was hugely successful commercially but panned by literary critics. The film is already setting off on a huge uphill battle and considering the popularity of the book, could be a box office smash or a big budget failure. With a screenplay penned by Marcel, who wrote this years awards hopeful Saving Mr. Banks, and directed by artist turned film maker Sam Taylor-Johnson, who has seen huge success with her John Lennon biopic Nowhere Boy, Fifty Shades... may be revolutionised into an artsy, interesting film.
Maybe. Maybe not...
