The Good, The Bad, and The Guilty

A new group is being created, or movement, if you will. Our voices will be heard, loud and proud, we will be recognised, and we will be listened to. We watch guilty pleasures, and we will not be looked down on anymore!
Yes, films such as The Artist are beautiful works of art, but when it's late, and you're tired, it's not subtlety you're looking for, but it's shiny, tanned people overcoming it all, and falling in love (after the argument in a bizarre scenario-see How To Lose A Guy In Ten Days). Shawshank Redemption may be the number 1 film on the IMDB Top 250, but is it over in 90 minutes, and feature a gloriously predictable storyline? No is the answer. On these evenings, you want literally anything featuring Kate Hudson, you want Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (not its Oscar nominated predecessor, you want to see our heroine in the absurd situation of needing to be rescued from a Thai jail by Mark Darcy), you want to sing along with Pitch Perfect (have a look at the trailer below). A guilty pleasure is like being wrapped in a warm, familiar blanket, it's comfortable and you know exactly where you are. And let's be honest, who hasn't felt personally victimised by Regina George?
Why should you feel guilty for liking your rom coms? The critics may be exasperated by them, but surely it's harder to see the something special in a film, rather than picking out all the negatives? As someone who is a huge fan of the Step Up franchise, there is a strange sense of achievement in finding a scene which doesn't make your insides curl up in embarrassment. On those evenings, when it's chucking it down outside, and your bank account isn't exactly overflowing with going out money, what is better than putting on your pyjamas, drawing the blinds, getting your friends round (guilty pleasures are always better watched with a group-safety in numbers), and watching a classic Nora Ephron film?
Fight the system, don't let your voice be overheard anymore! Clueless, Hairspray and Tangled will always be there for you, you should be there for them too.
