The life and times of Weezy F. Baby

RnB/Hip Hop | Wednesday 16th March 2016 | Ollie

A look at the stellar career of one of the greatest rappers ever to hit the stage.

Love him or not, there is no denying Wayne's success and international appeal. He is one of a rare breed of rappers that has spanned multiple generations of hip-hop whilst still managing to stay relevant. Wayne has quite literally lived the life of a rapper, signing to Cash Money Records when he was just 9 years old. After honing his skills he joined the legendary group The Hot Boyz and they released their platinum album Guerrilla Warfare, which catapulted them to mainstream success. After the group disbanded and most of the Cash Money roster leaving, it was up to Wayne to keep the label afloat and he did it by releasing the first of the legendary Tha Carter series.

It was after the release of Tha Carter III in 2008 that saw Weezy shoot to the top of the charts and become a global superstar with singles 'Lollipop' and 'A Milli' dominating the airwaves. This then started the third chapter in Wayne's career - he started his own label Young Money Entertainment under Cash Money, becoming the head honcho. He started by singing artists such as Drake, Nicki Minaj and Tyga, and debuting them on the new label's flagship smash song 'Bedrock' in 2009.

Fast forward seven years and Young Money has sold over 20 million records with their big name artists Drake and Nicki Minaj still dominating the charts today. At only 33 Weezy has achieved so much, but the question is what will he bring us in the next 33 years?
