'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' Gets A Sequel!

Other | Tuesday 14th March 2017 | Idrees

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was the 2011 hit which was set to be the first film in the Columbia Pictures’ three-picture adaptation of Steig Larsson’s blockbuster novels, the Millennium Series.

However, we had yet to hear of any works of the sequel to the original movie, which saw high critical success. Until now.

Sony have now officially set a sequel for Girl with the Dragon Tattoo for an October 2018 release.

The sequel will be named The Girl in the Spider’s Web, which will be adapted from the fourth book in the Millennium series, and is famously the first book not to be written by creator Stieg Larsson.

The movie will be directed by Fede Alvarez, who is known for his projects Don’t Breathe and Evil Dead, and will reportedly feature an entirely new cast from the first movie. Alvarez is currently seeking out potential actresses to play the lead role of Lisbeth Salander.

The director also worked on adapting the screen play with Steven Knight and Jay Basu.

Written by David Lagercrantz, who was hired after Larsson passed away in 2004, Spider's Web follows superhacker Salander and investigative journalist Mikael Blomkvist as they find themselves at the center of a tangled web of spies, cybercriminals and corrupt governments.

Spider’s Web will be released on October 5 2018.
