The Oscars: 2016 - Winners

Other | Monday 29th February 2016 | Sam

The Oscars has faced much criticism this year after their apparent lack of nominations for any ethnic minorities. However, of course, the show must go on. And of course, Chris Rock stole the show!

Leonardo DiCaprio has dominated the headlines after finally winning his first Oscar for his brilliant portrayal of Hugh Glass in The Revenant. However, the big winner of the night was, suprisingly, Mad Max: Fury Road having picked up a whopping 6 awards, largely for editing and mise-en-scene. Another big surprise was the winner of the Best Picture award, Spotlight, beating The Revenant, The Big Short, Bridge of Spies, The Martian, Room, Brooklyn and Mad Max: Fury Road in the process.

It was a great night for Brit Mark Rylance who managed to pick up the award for his supporting role in Bridge of Spies, and Jenny 'Bag Lady' Beavan managed to win the Oscar for Best Costume Design to go with the BAFTA she won for the same category earlier in February. Furthermore, Amy, the incredible documentary highlighting the life of the late, great Amy Winehouse managed to win the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature.
