Dead Men Tell No Tales may not be last movie in 'Pirates' franchise

The fifth instalment of the highly successful Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, hits cinema soon!

The film sees the return of the beloved character Captain Jack Sparrow, played by Johnny Depp, as well as the return of another favourite character, Will Turner who is played by Orlando Bloom.

The film has currently been hyped up as the “The final adventure” which is stated in the trailer, which lead many of us to assume that this would be the final movie for the Pirates franchise.

However, it seems that this may not be the case.

Recently, Cinema Blend spoke with co-director Joachin Ronning where he was asked if this film was indeed the finale of the franchise.

“It’s difficult to ever know. I think that there’s always… this is the beginning of the finale. [Laughs] It depends on how you look at it. But I never take anything for granted, and I love the franchise. These kinds of movies, they remind me of the kind of movies I grew up with, those kind of adventure movies that made me want to become a filmmaker.” He responded.

“So, for me to be able to be a part of this and direct a Pirates of the Caribbean is a dream come true. But I don’t know if it’s the last one, or if they’ll make another ten of them — I don’t know! But I hope so!”

Ronning is joined with Espen Sandberg in directing this movie, as this would be the first time both worked on the franchise.

It is unclear to say whether this would be the final instalment of the franchise, but it seems as long as Ronning has a say in the matter, we could be seeing many more instalments in the future.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales hits theatres May 26.
