World War Z

Thursday 4th July 2013 | Meganne

If a film features Brad Pitt, it’s unlikely you won’t enjoy it, and this film is no different.

Described as fast-moving, thrilling and surprisingly smart, if you’re one for action, gunshots and zombies then this film is for you. Based around a rabies epidemic, tension is high throughout and you will be made to jump on numerous occasions. Although different to what many expected and altered from the book, it does not disappoint.

The plot is based around rabies and the speed and extent something of its type can cause. Once bitten, within twelve seconds you transform into a zombie, and Gerry (Pitt), comes close to this. Although as the hero of the film, he obviously escapes it and sets out so save the world.

Pitt leaves his family and travels with the US navy to assess the destruction and find a way to overcome it. Along the way he discovers the outbreak is global and struggles to believe there’s anything that can be done to solve it. After visiting Korea and Jerusalem and landing himself severe injuries, he realises what needs to be done, which takes him to a research facility in Cardiff, Wales. Here he battles with a large group of the infested zombies and single handedly discovers a method which ends up saving the world.

The beginning may seem rushed, and the middle overdone, but the energy is always present, one of the likely reasons behind the mainly positive reviews.
