Jim Carrey Separates Himself From Kick-Ass 2
With the worldwide success of the first Kick-Ass film, there is no doubt that the sequal set to be released in August 2013 will also be a hit. Kick-Ass is British superhero comedy action film, based the Kick-Ass comic, produced by Mark Millar and John Romita Jr. Despite being well received by a large audience, the first movie also generated some controversy because of the violence and profanity performed by young Chloe Grace Moretz, who was only eleven at the time of filming. The controversy has also been bought about in the sequel Kick-Ass 2, but this time it surrounded a different actor. Jim Carrey, who plays the role of Colonel Stars and Stripes, recently spoke out and stated he would withdraw his promotional support for the movie, condemning the level of violence within the motion picture. He explained that the massacre at Sandy Hook which occurred in December had changed his attitude towards the movie. In response to Carrey’s claims, Mark Millar took to his blog and described Carrey’s tweets as surprising. He stated: “I’m baffled by this sudden announcement as nothing seen in this picture wasn’t in the screenplay 18 months ago. Yes, the body-count is very high, but a movie called Kick Ass 2 really has to do what it says on the tin.”
Carrey’s claims are quite unexpected especially down to the fact that he enjoyed the first movie so much and knew what he was getting into. Also the genre is fiction and not based on real life events so should be taken with a pinch of salt and not too seriously. Despite this, those who go to view the film in August know what to expect and I like many others are looking forward to the sequel very much.
