MUST SEE: The impossible
One of the most deadliest natural disasters up to this day, not only did the tsunami clear the landscape of Thailand and other countries but it destroyed thousands of families; some killed and some missing.
Juan Antonio Bayona, director of the film brings the emotional and heart wrenching event to the big screen, taking viewers through the journey of the aftermath that victims had to face. We have heard about the country and how long it has taken them to get back on track and also about the residents that have lost their homes, The Impossible takes a different perspective.
Bayona recreates the world’s most lethal natural disaster by following the life of a family that head to Thailand for their Christmas holiday. Naomi Watts and Ewan MacGregor star as the couple a long their three children. A peaceful sunny day beside the pool unexpectedly within seconds becomes a week of absolute horror. The film trails the family’s unfortunate struggle for survival to become a family again and as they try to get out of the situation. It is a ‘powerful drama’ quoted by The Guardian, the use effects used to make the disaster seem realistic and right in front of your eyes as each second takes place. The film being 114mins comes as a surprise since Bayona makes sure to not cut important aspects of the event as it goes on. With all of this being said it most definitely has the potential of leaving you teary considering this is based on a true life story.
The film premiers 1st January, I am sure it will be a hit on the box office and good start to 2013. It could be said that this is a sad film to start of the New Year but I think of it as a film that makes you appreciate what you have and not take small things for granted this festive season. Do not miss out or be left out on the film that people are going to be talking about beginning of the year!
