The first full trailer for Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln has finally been released.
The film is based on Doris Kearn Goodwin’s biography of President Abraham Lincoln, Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln, but will only reflects the last four months of his life. Lincoln is therefore set at the end of the Civil War, when the President is having a political collision with members of his cabinet over whether or not slavery should be abolished. Spielberg explained that: “what permanently ended slavery was the very close vote in the House of Representatives over the Thirteenth Amendment – that story I’m excited to tell.”
The Jaws director also plans on showing “Lincoln at work, not just standing around posing for the history books...arguably the greatest working President in American history doing some of the greatest work in the world.” Abraham Lincoln will be played by Oscar and BAFTA winner, Daniel Day-Lewis and his co-stars include Joseph Gorden-Levitt and Tommy Lee Jones. With a cast like this, not to mention Spielberg as the director, Lincoln is bound to be worth a watch. It’s set to be released in the UK in January 2013, check out the trailer below to see what we’ve got to look forward to.
