It's Time To Sing...Make Sure It's Pitch Perfect!

If we rewind a couple years back before things like Glee and High School musical had come along, musicality within the film industry was pretty dead. We all remembered the classics Grease, West Side Story and The Sound Of Music, but that wasn’t what films were about anymore. We didn’t even have songs in Disney animation for while, which was just a crime. But since Glee came on to our screens, coming out of your classroom and bursting into song, has once again become...cool.
The last few years we’ve had musicals coming at us left right and centre with films like Mama Mia, The Princess and the Frog, Burlesque, Footloose, Rock of Ages and the High School Musical trilogy (surely one was enough?) and that’s to name a few. Now I’m not complaining as I can’t deny that I am a sucker for a good musical old or new, but emphasise on the ‘good’ part.
Something that has caught my eye in the musicality department is director Jason Moore’s Pitch Perfect, which is out in October. It’s a film based around university all-girl singing group, The Bellas (so basically Glee at college). And when new girl Beca (Anna Kendrick) joins, the group’s lifeless repertoire gets the jump start that it needs and they challenge their cocky male rivals in a campus competition. Yeah...I wasn’t crazy sold by the plot either, but the trailer did crack me up, so as long as the laughs aren’t just the bits from the clip, there’s definitely some potential here. Have a look at see what you think.
