'The Amazing Spider-Man' to be extended into a trilogy

Sony Pictures Entertainment, the production company behind The Amazing Spider-Man, has announced that they will be adding at least another two to the franchise. The film, following Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, broke box-office records upon its release and has so far grossed over $300,000,000.
“The Amazing Spider-Man is the first instalment in a movie trilogy that will explore how our fave hero's journey was shaped by the disappearance of his parents," said Sony on their Facebook page. This comes as no surprise considering the rave reviews for the performances of Garfield and Stone as well as the way in which the film has rejuvenated the franchise after criticism of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3, which was not as much of a hit as the first two films.
Director Marc Webb spoke on how he did not feel the need to tie up the story completely and wanted to “leave people curious about the future”. So audiences will see in future whether Spider-Man can once again hold up against other forthcoming superhero heavy-weights such as Thor 2 and Iron Man 3. If the current mass-audience pull that superhero films seem to having continues, they shouldn’t have much to worry about.
