New Trailer for The Conjuring released

Wednesday 3rd April 2013 | Osh

James Wan is quickly establishing himself as a capable horror filmmaker. Having had a number of successful releases under his belt (Saw, Insidious), Wan is ready to tackle the horror genre again, this time with the supernatural horror film The Conjuring, the latest trailer of which you can check out below.

In the film, Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga star as Ed and Lorraine Warren, a pair of renowned paranormal investigators who are called to help a family terrorised by a supernatural presence. Soon realising that they’re in over their heads, the Warrens must fight for their lives to destroy the most terrifying evil they’ve ever encountered.

If we’re being honest, I feel like this trailer just gives a bit too much away, thanks to some foreshadowing moments.  It also doesn’t help that this trailer relies on ghost shots and quick cuts to deliver scares, unlike the teaser, which utilised atmosphere and the unseen to great effect.

Then again, the film has been getting a lot of buzz thanks to overwhelming positive results from test screenings. Heck, the producers are so confident of this film that they’ve moved the release date to July, where it’ll be competing against summer blockbusters like Pacific Rim and The Wolverine. So I guess I’ll withhold my judgment for now.

In the meantime, check out the original teaser for this film, which I feel is simply more efficient.
