Creative England supports new British films

Two new British feature films have gained backing from Creative England.
Here & Now and Here Comes the Summer both set in the West Midlands have received funding from the Advantage Media Productions Fund (AMPF). AMPF, now managed by Creative England, was set up in 2007 by Screen West Midlands with the aim to invest and support creative ideas, talent and businesses in film, games and digital media.
They have previously contributed to the BBC crime drama Line of Duty and Penny Woolcock’s feature documentary about Birmingham gang warfare, One Mile Away, which won the Michael Powell Award for Best British Feature at the Edinburgh Film Festival this year.
Here and Now, directed and produced by Lisle Turner and Martina Klich tells the story of an inner-city girl and a local boy who seek comfort in each other’s company during the last days of summer, unaware that it will lead to love. Shooting is currently taking place for the film in the Wye Valley and is co-produced by Revolution Films.
By contrast, Here Comes the Summer, from Offender director Ron Scalpello is set in the 1980s culture and focuses around Paul, an ambitious individual with dreams about being a music journalist. However, an act of revenge develops into a night of violence compromising his chances of becoming a music journalist.
As one of the few active film funds focused on English regional work, AMPF aims to support future talent from all areas. Christopher Moll, head of talent at Creative England, is said to be ‘delighted to be supporting two highly distinctive and personal features from new and upcoming talent’.
