'The World's End' Gets the Green Light

Monday 16th July 2012 | Osh

Following a teasing tweet from Simon Pegg a few months ago, the latest film from Pegg, Nick Frost and Edgar Wright’s ‘Blood and Ice Cream’ trilogy has officially been given the green light from Universal. The movie, titled The World’s End, will use the usual formula of Pegg and Frost as the main actors, Pegg and Wright on screenwriting duties and Wright directing.

The news was revealed at this year’s Comic-Con in San Francisco along with the first poster for the upcoming film (see below). It’s essentially a list of pubs with the last being ‘The World’s End’, and refers to a pub crawl attempted by five friends. The synopsis released at Comic-Con gave a fuller picture:

“The film starts 20 years after five childhood friends attempted an epic pub crawl. The friends reunite when one of them becomes hell-bent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King, a 40-year-old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their hometown and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub, The World’s End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realise the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.”

This follow up is greatly anticipated seeing as its predecessors Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz cemented Pegg, Frost and Wright’s status as a comedy force to be reckoned with. Shooting begins in October so hopefully a release date will be announced sometime in 2013. Expect big things.
