The Troll Hunter Review

Other | Tuesday 27th September 2011 | Osh

With a cynical view of what to expect of a film which featured trolls in it, ‘The Troll Hunter’ surprisingly turned out to quite enjoyable.  The film is based around a group of Norwegian film students who harass a local camper, known for his love of bizarre evening trips into the wilderness. After constantly stalking the mysterious man, the curious students are eventually invited along on one of his adventures after giving in to their persistence.

Once the group begin to venture out on the journey together, they begin to find out about the truth about the man’s mysterious evening trips.  As you may have guessed, the group do in fact witness a variety of different trolls, and eventually begin to learn about the intriguing details of the beasts life. Venturing across numerous parts of Sweden, the group encounter many different trolls in a variety of climates, some more dangerous than others as they even watch their camera man get eaten in one scene.

Although the cameraman was clearly a tasty choice of meal, the film is not in fact all doom and gloom. The impressive CGI combined with the banter of the characters make the film more humorous and less frightening then a viewer may initially expect. So if you’re able to handle a bit of light-hearted horror mixed in with fun-filled adventure and comedy, sit down and get the popcorn out, as this may be the film for you!
