On Wednesday night, Guestlist went down to the social hot-spot AKA Revolution Bar, Leadenhall St, to experience their brand new festival cocktail masterclass extravaganza. Let's just say, all the fun was had.
The revolution - as any hospitable revolution should - started off with some interesting cocktail food that included sliders with a spicy ‘suicide’ sauce and popping candy meatballs, Trash Fries, and of course, a few a couple of glasses of champagne. The master-class can be accompanied by nibbles, two-course or three-course dining. With the champers drunk and Santa caps on our heads, we then passed Lenin and Mao into a private room to begin our Christmas cocktail making experience.
First, we tried our hand at making a Mojito. But it wasn’t just any Mojito, it was a Mojito paired with katsu prawn. That’s right, PRAWN. Naturally, we were suspicious, but as soon we had a sip and a bite, everything made sense. If crunchy prawn worked so well with mint, what other crazy combinations did they have in store for us?
Whatever outrageous combination ideas we did have, the reality of the next cocktail blew them out of the water. The Strawberry Woo Woo is quite an exciting drink. Poured into a sugar-rimmed martini glass, the strawberry puree drink is designed to look like Santa’s hat. What’s that I hear you ask? With which delightful nibble is this beverage paired?
A sliced strawberry and goat’s cheese bonbon. Strawberry and GOAT’S CHEESE!
Something about the intense sweetness of the strawberry just worked so well with the mildness of the cheese. It was certainly a revolution of the taste buds!

Next was the classic Cosmopolitan paired with a Christmas pudding, which I tried my hand at making. It was definitely a fun experience being behind the bar; I picked up tips from experienced mixologists and even turned orange zest into a fleeting flare! The point of that was to create a zesty aftertaste around the rim of the glass. It’s tips like that that made the master-class all the more interesting.
Before we went on to choose a cocktail we wanted to make from the menu, our taste buds were privy to a limited edition Christmas Cookie Cocktail that was paired with a Christmas tree shaped cookie.
Another standout feature of the master-class was the exotic selection of shots. Revolution pulled out all the stops on this part: we tried vodka shots with eggnog, chocolate cookie, and – wait for it- turkey & stuffing! It smelt like turkey, it tasted like turkey; it was as good as turkey!
Revolution started with a buzzing atmosphere, added passionate bartenders, threw in some funky cocktails, mixed with fun games and created a formula for the perfect festive night!
Now that’s a revolution we can get behind!
Press looking rather jolly after all the festive fun and nibbles...
