Karate Kid sequel series Cobra Kai in development

Other | Sunday 6th August 2017 | David

Over three decades after the release of the original Karate Kid movie back in 1984, Ralph Macchio, who starred as the titular bullied kid turned karate practitioner Daniel LaRuss, is set to reprise his role in a new series on YouTube Red, as confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter.

Titled Cobra Kai, the 30-minute show will run for ten episodes and will see Daniel’s friend Johnny (played by William Zabka, who will also be reprising his role from the first film) reopening the infamous Cobra Kai dojo, which reignites a rivalry between the two.

Cobra Kai will be written and produced by Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, and is set to debut next year. Pat Morita, who was nominated for an Oscar for his role as the elderly mentor Kesuke Miyagi, has sadly passed on, but fans will still be delighted to see that the Karate Kid franchise is still going strong.

In the meantime let's take you down memory lane with one of Karate Kid's best scenes:
